Here's something new for all you PPCers to worry about.
I've never seen it discussed before, just wonder if anybody else has dealt with it.
I've been tracking traffic on GoClick, but it is probably the same with any of the secondary PPC's who display their results on thousands of little websites all over the internet.
I am finding my ads all over the place that show up for keywords I didn't (and wouldn't) bid on. Just take my GoClick ad and keyword "phentermine" as an example.
I'm finding it showing up and getting clicked on when people search for:
"phentermine use Paypal" - ie here:
http://real-search.net/search.php?aid=31330&q=phentermine+use+Paypal
of course, I don't except Paypal, so would never want to show up in this search...
"rx phentermine without prescription COD" - ie here:
http://direct.zenno.info/search.php?qq=rx+phentermine+without+prescription+ COD
of course, I don't ship COD so would never want to show up here
(PS If you bid on "phentermine" at GoClick, you'll probably see your site here to)
I'm seeing searches for "phentermine worldwice" (typo, but I don't ship worldwide), "phentermine hycrococone" (don't even know what that would be), "HGH pills" (links to my "Phentermine Diet Pills" keyword, and is nothing that I sell), etc, etc, etc.
One of the disturbing things is, while all of these keywords are probably a $0.05 click at GoGlick, all of these ads link to my "phentermine" bid, which might cost me anywhere from $040 to $2.00... And I had my ad clicked on on all these searches and many, many more with similarly stupid searches. And I'm paying my Phentermine bid on every click.
So what it means in reality is that I'm bidding $1.00, or whatever my "phentermine" bid is, on stupid keywords like "phentermine use Paypal", "rx phentermine without prescription COD", "phentermine worldwice", etc that I wouldn't want anything to do with. And I'm not using any form of broad search or subject matching search either. Strictly keyword matching only.
Anybody else ever notice this or deal with this? Of course, getting the PPC's to admit it's a problem or doing anything about it is impossible...
(I guess if you've ever wondered why you may get 100 clicks on "phentermine", but only a couple on "buy phentermine", this is probably part of the answer...)
