I am building an affiliate system in ColdFusion...
It would be Non-RX (headaches with Dr's and Pharmacies etc), but could basically work with any product/service... Does anyone have ideas of what they think should be built/developed...
Any ideas work kids... Just throw them out there...

If you are thinking about software part of the "affiliate system" then I'd say there are already several established payers in the market. Starting from biggies like CJ to smaller ones like myaffiliateprogram. Then there are a few scripts/softwares that you can buy and install on your servers. Then why reinvent the wheel?
My company used tobuild complete ecom sites and I thought about having my own affiliate system/software to sell but decided against it even though we had the skills and the required manpower to develop it because market for such a product is very saturated. Biggest problem is that a vast majority of affiliates (including me) simply don't trust the reporting of inhouse affiliate softwares. They are too easy to manipulate. Have a look at "Jive network was shaving" threads/posts and you will know what I'm talking about. Affiliates trust third-party systems like CJ even though it is a well known fact that affiliates don't get credit for a significantnumbers of sales made through CJ because of spywares/scumwares. Only exceptions are some of the biggest merchants where affiliates do trust the inhouse reporting. Amazon is one such case.
If you are asking about what products to promote then it is a different question altogether.

We have found MyAP is a good system. Many other platformsfail the 2T test, such as Direct Track. We built a finance program using DT and then had to build our own backend interface to fixthe many issues we encountered.
However, there are OP affiliate programs I have grown to trust like Rx Mex and Budget with a 3rd player growing nicely A Affiliates group.

i would say, that a Set-Your-Own-Pricesshopping cart would still sell if you have the marketing skills to convince stores to use it ....
We have one developed by the x-cart team, but it lacks some things still ...
If I had the time I would make a module for OsCommerce (on top of the free affiliate module) and sell it, or give it away and somehow (how???) get 2nd tier out of it ....
i am working on something too right now, but it will be clearly aimed at 2nd tier sales as it is going to be a "free tool" (as in beer) ....
if I fail to develop it myself I put the idea public :)
... until then, think about an SYOP shopping cart or module .... :)
