I had an MLM project come across my desk yesterday regarding herbal products. Before I spend any time or effort bringing it to fruition, is anyone out there still doing any MLM. Is it a waste of time?
Thanks for your input.

Amway is a great example and the forefather of MLM. Affiliate programs with second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth .....millionth tier subs is MLM - Multi-Level Marketing. Everybody in your downline sells and you get commissions.
MLM is a big scam in many cases where you purport to sell a valuable product and when someone bites your bait, you sell them the info on how to do what you are doing, registering them in your downline as you go.
My experience, anyways, but there are some good ways to make money in MLM, I just have not run accross any.

Well this one woudn't be a scam. It's actually a pretty sweet system that I've been asked to manage but I'm not sure if it would be worth my time or not. The program focuses on sexual enhancement products. I'm just trying to get an idea of what you guys all think.

MLM done the right way can be good.
(when you have an actual product, not the typical send $10 to the top of the list crap, then in 20 days you receive $234235245223)
I know people who make money on amway, which at the end is pure MLM ...
if you are on top in an MLM scheme, it can be OK IMHO

Only the top people in amway (they have since changed the name) make money, and they make it by pressuring their downline to pay for the book and tape "of the month" and on weekend training trips. They make nothing on sales of products. That comes directly from an employeeof one of the biggest persons in amway.

Well my mother-in-law did amway, and she doesn't push it anymore, but still gets $100-200 a month for doing absolutely NADA ..
Yeh she is not on top of MLM, and yeah $100 a month is not a lot, but it is the small extra I'd never refuse for doing nothing :)
on the other hand she knows people who were on top in the US, and some people made a full time living even for their grandchildren ...
and again, they started early and they probably worked a lot on pushing it ...
ps: I still use amway, their vitamins/minerals are good products, and since I am GREENie I prefer their environment friendly product line ..

I know somone doing the same thing with Melaleuca products. MLM can work but depends on the products, program layout tiers and a lot of work. If you bust your ass doing it, it can pay off. ...Lots of work..

Well, it used to be that MLM was one of the fewviable options you could begin with very little capital. But it requiredlots of sweat and hardwork to make it work.Only a handful in an MLM programseemed to make any serious money. (check out this website: http://www.mlmwatch.org/).If you were an outgoing extrovert, you had a better chance of success with MLM becauseit often required lots of face-to-face sellingto make it work. In any case, when the internet exploded there were thosewho tried to market MLM via the net,but I didn't hear alot of major successesvia this method at the time. Then afew years a laterthis thing called "affiliate marketing" came on the scene big time where companies like amazon.comkinda out putit on the map.
I think for alot of us who have had good success with affiliate marketing, doing any MLM wouldseemlike ahuge step backward. So I'm not sure how much luck you're gonna find trying to recruit people when there's this thing called "affiliate marketing". (Any spam I get that's about MLM I delete without even opening or reading.). If your main focus is going to beretail sales, thenit's probably a good idea never to mention the word MLM anywhere to the consumer/shopper.The image with MLM ain't thatgood. They tend to think "scam", etc.
