Yahoo is set to dump Google as its primary search technology as part of an assault on Google's dominance in web navigation.
The company may switch to its own technology as early as the first quarter, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal today.
This means the switch could occur as Google prepares for its long-awaited initial stock offering, which is expected to occur early this year.
As part of its assault on Google's dominance, Yahoo aims not just to replicate Google but add new features.
It wants to combine personalisation and customisation features and it plans to expand its use of "paid inclusion", whereby businesses pay to be included in a search engine's listings in greater detail.
Google executives have said that they do not plan to adopt paid inclusion. Yahoo says that merchants are not buying higher search rankings, but that the search results for these firms will contain more information.

It's Finally about to happen ... let's hope this is a positive for us in some way...</TD></TR></T></TABLE>
