I was thinking of concentrating on trying to get higher rankings on MSN instead of Google since there seems to be less competing sites on MSN. Does anyone have high ranking siteson MSN and ifyou are getting alot of traffic as a result?

I got bounced from MSN because of a few keywords like Phentermine. I think this happened because my site was submitted through Overture.
A few months back I had a first page result for Didrex smileys/smiley1.gif , but did not finish in the first 1000 for Phentermine smileys/smiley6.gif , and Viagra... forget it, I never did find my site, It got lost in cyberspace. smileys/smiley19.gif

Was the first page result for Didrex on MSN due thru PPC from Overture? And did you recieve alot of traffic from this? What I am trying to find out is if anyonehas a site ranked high with MSN not thru PPC like Overture(since this will inflate traffic results because top bidders on Overture will show up on other OvertureSearch Partners)for a search term that is in high demand and if you are getting alot of traffic. The reason I am asking this is because there seems to be less competing sites on MSN. Could this be because there are not too many peole usingMSN.

Microsoft was the originator of the concept that google is now trying to master - the ability to put informative sites at the top of natural serps so that users click on the ppc stuff. Do a search for phentermine - maybe 1 or 2 sites in the top 20 sell phen.

Nah, has nothing to do with microsoft other than their choice of partners.
the web directory sites are all Looksmart results - above them are overture results. Looksmart is toast in a couple weeks anyway, so if you are thinking about msn traffic check out hotbot.com for INK results...

When is the L$ deal ending? Any word if MSN will keep their own directory and have this above the Ink results, or will MSN be pure Ink now?

I dont think so JayB.Mmany sites sell Phentermine for natural listings. Of course these are still from Inktomi and not MSN.

The LookSmart deal is up around the 15th of Jan. I expect listing to be pulled around then.

I find MSN traffic converts better than Google. MSN users generally have big fat wallets. Googlers always seem to be searching for a deal.

<DIV>I used to rank on page 1 for Levitra back in September before Inktomi changedits algorithm in Sept-October 2003. Now, I am way down the list.</DIV>

<DIV>I cannot understand how to optimize for Inktomi as it seems the technique for Google is much easier...smileys/smiley5.gif</DIV>

<DIV>P.S. I have paid for inclusion in Inktomi. </DIV>

MSN traffic converts MUCH better than Google I agree Redex. This is because one of thing, people who use MSN are shopping while people who use Google are more likely researching the topic.

I tried to do anything in MSN and failed ... I just don't uinderstand their algo.
I used to be #1 for adipex search and it was great time - but for no reason ... it was brand new web site with no inbound links and just 10 pages of standart content :)
Inktomi is easier to understand, but still hard to me ...

Actually, when I had the first page result for Didrex I was not using PPC (still do not in MSN). To be honest, I really have never figured out why I had such a good result for Didrex, but never found site under Viagra. My site was built to give good exposure for weight loss and sexual health.
Site does not promote OP at this time, a wait and see approach was required due to some headaches.
Site is now a pathetic text link directory till OP industry is vindicated or not, then I will decide what to do with it.
FYI, a MAJOR case against the practices used by OPs and online DOCs is said to be set for June 2004.

Look get's tossed on January 15th. MSN will bump up INK until their own search is ready for launch. MSN bot has already been spotted on the loose.
